Dr. Courtney Barnes

VETERINARIAN

Along with my colleagues, my love of animals goes back to early childhood. My family lived in the country where we were always surrounded by lots of pets and wildlife. Those early experiences gave me a profound appreciation for animals and nature. I have always wanted to work closely with animals, and have been very lucky to attain that goal.

In 2002 I graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Biology. I took a few years off school and moved out to Vancouver Island with my now-husband, Greg, and our cat Fozzy, where we lived in a log cabin in the woods.  I returned to Guelph to attend Ontario Veterinary College in 2004, graduating in 2008.  We had always loved the Niagara region, and as my husband works in the wine industry it was the ideal place for us to move after graduation.

I began working at Martindale Animal Clinic soon after graduation and have been here ever since (over 10 years now!). I learn so much every day and love taking care of my patients. I have special interests in internal medicine, nutrition, senior health care, and emergency medicine.

When I'm not working, I spend time with my two sons who have me wrapped around their little fingers.  Our family also includes a yellow lab named Milo who is enjoying his senior years, two crazy cats who hate each other, and a crested gecko named Rango.

I love what I do and couldn't ask for a better place to work.  At Martindale Animal Clinic we take pride in practicing high-quality, patient-oriented, comprehensive medical care. We have recently undergone fear free training and certification to show our commitment to our patient’s health and happiness. I am very proud to be a member of this amazing team!
