Neutering refers to the surgical procedure performed on male dogs and cats to render them infertile. There are many benefits to neutering your male companion, including:
- Contributing to reducing dog and cat overpopulation
- Eliminating undesirable or embarrassing behavior in your male companion
- Helping to prevent diseases in your pet such as:
- Prostate disease
- Testicular cancer
What Should I Consider Before I Neuter My Pet?
Before you decide to neuter your pet you should ensure you understand the procedure as well as the associated benefits and risks. At Martindale Animal Clinic we are happy to educate you about neutering before you make a decision.
Neutering involves the surgical removal of both testicles. It is performed using the latest general anesthetic drugs and is assisted with multiple state-of-the-art monitoring devices.
If you are calling around for a competitive price on this procedure, be sure to question the:
- Type of anesthetic used
- Type of monitoring equipment used
- Procedures followed
- Pain medication used
At Martindale Animal Clinic our registered veterinary technician continually assesses your pet’s vital signs. The patients are monitored with a Pulse Oximetry that measures the oxygen saturation in the red blood cells, ECG monitoring which monitors the electrical conductivity through the heart Doppler which measures the blood pressure. We also measure respiratory rate, heart rate and body temperature.
The surgical patients lay on a heated water bed on the surgical table that helps to maintain body temperature. Although the risk of an anesthetic death in a normal healthy pet is very rare, our monitoring devices and procedures allow us to respond to an anesthetic emergency faster. Faster responses can save lives.
