Trinket is a 6 year old female rabbit. Trinket was noted to have difficulty urinating and was only producing small amounts of bloody urine. X-rays were taken and showed a large bladder stone the size of an egg! Surgery was done immediately to remove the stone and Trinket recovered very well. She is much happier and comfortable now.

Stones can form in the bladders of all our pets for various reasons. They can be due to diet, infection, or a genetic predisposition. Signs to watch out for are difficulty urinating, frequent urination, or blood in the urine. They can cause trauma to the bladder and become stuck in the urethra. X-rays are used to identify the stones and surgery is usually required to remove them. Trinket’s diet has been modified so she will hopefully no longer produce stones and continue to be a happy, healthy bunny.
