As our pets age, their health concerns change. Blood testing can help to identify areas of concern before signs of illness become apparent. It also helps to track changes over time.

MacKenzie, a 12 year old Sheltie, came in to visit Martindale Animal Clinic a few months ago for an annual exam, heartworm test and prevention for fleas and ticks. While meeting with the doctor, the family elected to do a Senior Bloodwork Test. The results showed that MacKenzie had elevated liver values.

A plan was set in motion to monitor and reassess his values in two months. At that time, the values had worsened significantly. Having an understanding of these values and the potential reasons for changes allowed MacKenzie’s family and The Martindale Veterinary Team to focus further testing in order to achieve a diagnosis. A specific treatment plan was then formed to manage MacKenzie’s liver disease.

Having advance knowledge and awareness of the changes in our pets systems, allows pet owners and the Martindale Veterinary Team to provide excellent medical care and identify problems early on.
